What I Eat

October 30, 2016Rachel

When people find out what I don’t eat they usually ask me, “So… what do you eat?”

I can’t help but chuckle and reply, “Real food.”

High quality meats, fats and oils, veggies, nuts, and a small amount of fruit are included in my diet. I do occasionally eat some dairy. It’s usually butter or cheese. I leave out all the processed stuff. That would include anything in a box or anything with more than a few ingredients. I don’t consider grains, legumes, sugar or artificial sweeteners a part of my normal diet either.

I’m not the paleo police though. I try to find balance in my diet where I’m feeling my best and eating what I want. For me, this means eating “squeaky clean” until a chocolate chip cookie comes along that I just can’t pass up. I know I can enjoy one single cookie and then continue back to my normal way of eating.

This balance is a work in progress. Sometimes I will come across a treat that causes me to crave sugar and carbs for the rest of the night. Which leaves me feeling bloated and lethargic.

I learned what works for me through a pretty popular elimination diet called the Whole30. You can learn more about it here. I would highly recommend checking it out!

For the most part, my normal diet works well for me. I can enjoy the worthwhile treats and still continue to feel motivated and energetic.

What works for you guys? I want to know! What do you eat that makes you feel your best? And what foods trigger cravings?
