Naturally Sweetened Orange Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce
A tart naturally sweetened orange cinnamon cranberry sauce without any added sugar! Sweetened with fruit, your guests won’t even know this is a healthy cranberry sauce.
Put down that can of jellied cranberry sauce right this instant! Package cranberry sauce is loaded with sugar! And the canned jellied kind is just plain weird and unnatural, okay?
If you’ve never made your own cranberry sauce then you don’t know what you are missing. It’s something you can’t find prepackaged and it’s super simple to make.
Fresh cranberries are easy to find in the produce section this time of the year. The other ingredients are common enough that you might even have most of them in your kitchen already.
The only problem with homemade is that most recipes still call for about a cup of sugar. If you are like me and cringe at the thought of adding that much sugar to anything, then this recipe is for you! It is a pretty tart dish which really lets the cranberries shine. Cranberries are tart. Not sweet. I get that they taste better when they are loaded with sugar but I feel that it is really unnecessary since you are usually not eating cranberry sauce on its own.
This naturally sweetened cinnamon orange cranberry sauce only takes about 15 minutes to whip up and can be made in advance! Yes, I am making this 2 weeks before thanksgiving and throwing it in the freezer. Hey, it’s one less thing I have to think about come the big day.
I’m trying to make this Thanksgiving as easy as possible on myself since I have a 3 month old now. Long gone are the days where I can spend hours in the kitchen uninterrupted. My plan is to have my sides already cooked ahead of time so all I need to do is warm them up in the oven. Oh, and cook a turkey.
This cranberry sauce is naturally sweetened with dates and apples. No refined sugar, honey, or syrups here! Which also makes this PERFECT for Whole30. You’ve got to be slightly crazy to do a Whole30 through Thanksgiving though! Kidding… sort of.
I do try to stick to a Whole30 template as much as possible. If I can cut out a cup of refined sugar at Thanksgiving then I’m all for it!
Naturally Sweetened Orange Cinnamon Recipe Notes:
I used 6 dates in mine which left it still very tart. I don’t mind the tartness since I’m usually eating it with other food. You could add more dates if you like it sweeter.
